Manmohan Singh - such a qualified person!

[Someone sent me an e-mail detailing the qualification of Mr. Manmohan Singh. Exteremly impressive, no doubt. But then...]
Such a qualified person. Yet he has no compunction in accepting, supporting and bowing to a foreigner as leader of India.

He has thus far not said anything of the sanctity of Ramjanmabhoomi and the need of the Muslims to respect the Hindu sentiments on the matter but when he went to Afghanistan as Prime Minister of India, he made sure, with Rahul Gandhi in tow, that he paid his respects at the mausoleum of Baber, the destroyer of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

All his 'education' (I would rather say training) did not make him realise the immorality of his midnight fax to the President of India on a visit to Moscow to dissolve the Bihar assembly.

He is not able to see that asking for head-counts in the Army to bring in reservations for the Muslims is not secularism but only following the traditions of the Congress of appeasing the Muslims and leading to partition.

His qualifications qualify him to be a good Finance Minister or even a Prime Minister as he is today, under the leadership of a foreigner. But he is certainly not qualified to be the leader of India. Something which, according to me, Atal Behari Vajpayee is eminently qualified to be. Or even a Praveen Togadia, for they have it in their gut not to compromise with India's national interest.

I think it is pertinent at this time, when some mere cartoons have generated much violence amongst the Muslims, to state what I think on the matter, because I feel it is time for everyone to become aware of the danger of Islamic fanaticism getting out of hand and engulfing India.

While it is logical that freedom of expression cannot be absolute (except maybe in the privacy of one’s mind in fantasy mode), the Muslim community does not seem to have the concept of private space - sacred space where the expressions of individuals or communities cannot be violated. Which is why Prophet Mohammed destroyed the idols in Mecca and other places. He did not respect the sacredness of another’s religion. Muslims have always been an intolerant majority and a turbulent minority. This is exactly why they are unable to respect or understand the liberal culture that is prevalent amongst the intelligentsia in many parts of the world.

This is unlike the Hindu culture, which has always nurtured geniuses of different colours. Our culture indeed celebrates its cardinal vision – Truth may be one but its expressions are various. (Ironically, even a M.F. Hussain in painting a nude Sita, Saraswati or Bharat Mata is only thriving on this Hindu broad-mindedness, for he has painted Prophet Muhammad’s daughter fully clothed, as also Mother Theresa. Instinctly, he fears the narrow-minded response he could generate amongst the Semitic religionists. )

Islam and Christianity with their ‘my God the only true God’ syndrome, contributes to much of the narrow-mindedness and fanaticism in this world.

As far as India is concerned, the only solution to the fanaticism of the Muslims (or fanaticism of any sort, including casteist ugliness) is for the Hindus to dilute it with a robust display of its broad-minded culture. This is exactly what Swami Vivekananda envisioned.

I wished to say this much to reiterate that a genuine leadership of India can come only from someone schooled in the vision of Swami Vivekananda.

Just my opinion.
