In we wish to survive in the battleground that today’s world has become, we need to be armed with the most powerful weapon of the day and that is English. But if English is the most powerful weapon we can have at our command, our own mother tongue is the muscle we need to have. Without muscles we would hardly be able to lift any weapon. Yet, even with Arnie’s muscles, we could be shot through the head by a child if we don’t have a gun ourselves.
By saying thus, I hope I have placed in perspective the role of mother tongue and English, each, in our lives today.
